19 | Q1 | Endocrine disorders are estimated to be the underlying cause of 5% of all cases of hypertension, although more recent data suggests that this number may be as high as 20%. The most common types of endocrine hypertension are primary aldosteronism, pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas, Cushings syndrome, acromegaly, hyperthyroidism, and hypothyroidism. Endocrine causes of hypertension often promote the development of other significant comorbidities, especially heart disease (coronary artery disease and heart failure) and diabetes mellitus.
