In the Global Burden of Disease study, chronic kidney disease (CKD)
incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years have each risen by at least 20% from 2007 to 2017. Despite clinical guidelines created by global kidney organizations, adherence to recommendations remains suboptimal. In a recent United States crosssectional study of adults with CKD, high prevalence of uncontrolled hypertension and diabetes and low use of statins were observed, and there was little improvement in the quality of CKD care over time — despite clear guidelines. Learn early detection and intervention strategies for CKD with considerations of patient factors, health economics, and resource availability.
