Event Details

Pharmacogenomic testing is now standard of care in the community, yet many clinicians struggle to interpret the results, know when and how to adjust medication doses, and answer patient questions. Gain an overview of pharmacogenomic laboratory findings, strategies for prescribing medications, and resources for patient, caregiver and staff education. Topics covered will include metabolizer phenotypes, gender and race considerations for safe prescribing, and a review of the cytochrome P450 genes. Case-based scenarios will highlight prescribing strategies for common primary care diagnoses such as hypertension, upper respiratory tract infections, diabetes, depression, and back pain. Basic genetic or genomic knowledge is required.
