Interstitial lung disease (ILD) seems to be a black box for many health practitioners as it is a heterogeneous group of disorders. It is characterized by inflammation and/or fibrosis of the lungs. It may be caused by exposure to hazardous chemicals or smoking, medications or other medical therapies, occupational/environmental exposures, autoimmune diseases, and in some cases the cause is never found. Learn more about ILD, how it is diagnosed, evaluated, and treated to slow the progression of the disease.
