Interstitial lung disease (ILD) seems to be a black box for many health practitioners as it is a heterogeneous group of disorders. It is characterized by inflammation and/or fibrosis of the lungs. It may be caused by exposure to hazardous chemicals or smoking, medications or other medical therapies, occupational/environmental exposures, autoimmune diseases, and in some cases the cause is never found.
