Care of transgender patients with additional issues, such as the need for contraception, bipolar disorder, clotting issues, cardiovascular disease, and liver problems, makes safely prescribing hormones more difficult for the primary care provider. With more people feeling comfortable seeking help with their gender transition, we are finding that provider resources are lacking for this more complex set of patients. Understand how to address these issues and how to manage care for these complex transgender patients.
