Innovation (in·no·va·tion, inəˈvāSH(ə)n): something original or novel that disrupts the usual way of doing things. It is NOT a small step or incremental change or a guideline implementation.
Nurse Practitioners have the experience and unique vision to re-create the healthcare system. NOW is our time! This Innovation Challenge is a way to stimulate action by all NPs and to recognize exciting innovations.
The Innovation Challenge will select top panelists to present how one goes about being open to creativity and innovation, grounded in the reality of what can better help patients and clinicians in creating new pathways to improve healthcare. You are encouraged to submit your innovation breakthrough for consideration as part of a panel on innovation in healthcare. You can submit an innovation already underway OR a good idea for an innovation you want to implement but have not yet begun. Check the category below that fits you.
The panel will take place on Saturday, July 21, 2018, as part of the National Nurse Practitioner Symposium in Keystone, Colorado. Selected panelists will have 5 minutes to present their innovative idea, as part of a 90 minute session. Selected panelists may also present their innovative idea or project as a poster at the National Nurse Practitioner Symposium. Selected panelists are expected to register for the National Nurse Practitioner Symposium and will receive a $150 credit towards their registration.
Disruptive innovations change the way things are done creating new approaches. Some examples of past innovations include:
- group visits for diabetes and chronic care
- telehealth sessions with patients
- previsit sessions with a patient to establish an agenda for the visit
- expanding the role of the MA to manage immunizations using standing orders
- using health coaches
So, open your minds to making things better for your patients and dream a disruptive innovation.
If you would like to have your innovative idea considered for inclusion in the Innovation Challenge, please complete the required information below and submit by March 1, 2018.
